Rights & Respect.

Purpose. Relationships. Vision.

Between our gatherings, the story continues.

Rights & Respect is an annually published magazine dedicated to telling reconciliation stories between our events. Our first issue was published in advance of our inaugural event, Finding The Path, in 2020, to consider the future under UNDRIP legislation.

Rights & Respect returned in 2022-2023 to provide a record of the historic proceedings of IPSS 2022, where hundreds of Indigenous, business and governmental thought-leaders convened to discuss, connect, and commit to Indigenous renewal in 2022.

Rights & Respect, Issue 2.

IPSS 2022 organizers asked writers Tracy Jager and Wayne Moriarty to act as event rapporteurs. They sat through all of our sessions to see and hear directly what was said on stage. Subsequently, they teamed up to produce a text for each one of the sessions. In this issue of Rights & Respect, we are sharing those stories. By doing this, we are ensuring that a written record of proceedings can be made available to the widest possible audience so that evidence of partnership success is more broadly understood.

Stories include:

  • How Squamish Nation and FortisBC made history

  • A behind-the-scenes look at the historic Coastal GasLink equity options deal

  • The story of how the Mi’kmaq bought North America’s largest integrated seafood company

Rights & Respect, Issue 1.

On January 14, 2020, The Declaration: Finding the Path (IPSS 2020) convened a historic event on Indigenous rights and our shared future. For the first time in Canadian history, British Columbia had become the first jurisdiction to pass legislation that commits our government to align its laws and public policies with the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP). Translating this vision into action – and collectively forging real steps to implementation – is the task and necessity of the times.

Stories include:

  • JP Gladu on searching for broader meaning and UNDRIP

  • Karen Ogen-Toews on consultation and procurement creating a foundation of trust

  • Dr. Roshan Danesh on myths about Indigenous consent
